Every Rivendell model is a favourite, but the Platypus might be the most favourite. Road riding, loaded or unloaded touring, commuting, day rides, fitness rides, shopping runs, therapy laps — it does all of it, and it does it well. It's not a trail bike, but a capable rider with decent judgment can take it on fire roads without a second thought. Maximum recommended tyre is a true 50mm, though slightly wider knobby tyres have been known to fit without issue.

The Platypus also refuses to be merely practical. It doesn't ask you to find beauty in its usefulness or put up with its looks because it's functional. It's genuinely good all around, and it turns heads wherever it goes.

The complete build was specced with care — Rivendell picked what they know and trust, and didn't cut corners. Buying it complete leaves enough budget to swap a part or two to suit personal taste, without the bike needing anything out of the box. Ride it as it comes. Everything earned its spot.
